I FEEL A SALAD COMING ON!
Mr. HCB proudly brought in his first cucumber and the first red tomatoes - there are lots to come, and he tells me he also has Lollo Rosso lettuce too, so I think a nice salad with some salmon and homemade coleslaw is on the cards for our evening meal.
A few of the tomatoes went down well with some home-cooked bread rolls, cheese and pickle. We are just sorry that our dear friend, Rachel, who loves cucumbers, is working in India - and I don't think they would travel that well.
We have already had lots of runner beans, climbing French beans, mange tout peas and courgettes, so it will be good to have a simple salad instead of cooking.
Everything is very much slower this year, probably because we haven’t had much sun since the hot weather in June, but these are the vagaries of the English weather!
There are lots of bees and butterflies around though and it is a joy to see them on our flowers. I did some tidying up in the kitchen this morning so have been ordered to rest this afternoon - as the sun is shining, perhaps an hour or two in the garden sitting under an umbrella might work. I could watch Mr. HCB cutting the edges and mowing the outside of the grass - as long as the flying ants don’t descend on me!
