Remnants .....

I spent the morning/early afternoon exploring Glen Fender with the Tryst Walking Group. It was led by CL who grew up in Pitlochry and knows the area extremely well and we were joined by EG who lives nearby and studied the area for her dissertation in archaeology and history.  Both really added to the walk by sharing the history of the many ruins we past - a mixture of houses, shielings, fanks and an old church (on a site where there had been a church for over 1000 years and which records show was paying taxes to the Catholic Church in the 1200s).  EG also shared the tail of the Shed with the Seven Heads.  Our destination was the Creag-choinnich Lodge bult in the late 1800s for the laird and his stalkers to stay in when out hunting.  You can make it out in the distance if you know where to look. It has sadly now fallen into disrepair (extra).

A really interesting walk and one which I wouldn't have discovered on my own.

I caught up with a few bits and pieces in the afternoon and then went for a swim. It was a lovely evening - the water was both calmer and warmer than Monday and there were nine of us all told.

T is making tea tonight and glass or two of wine might be consumed - we made our last mortgage payment today :-)
