Practice

Shortest shift of the week, started in by nipping into work to go to the managers meeting.  Thankfully finished a wee bit earlier than expected so treated myself to creme brulee donut and cranachan milkshake.  Even though I'm not doing much I'm finding I really need to fuel up for these days outside! (At least that's the excuse)

On the cards today were the BMX flatstyle women's qualifiers and the men's semi finals.  Kio Hayakawa qualified first again with an immense 94.66 score (out of 100) and I only wish I had been in a part of the arena to see it!  However, for my entire shift he was practising on the ramps, so that might explain some of his success, he was definitely putting the work in.  Catfish (the host) told us all that Kio had done a trick that he'd never seen before and asked the judges after yesterday's competition what ti was called - and the judges hadn't seen it before either! It might not be the most well known of the events, but I've been really impressed by everything I've seen.

I was on accesibility again today, but at the much busier West gate and spent most of the day high fiving people with my foam hand.  Best interaction of the day was making a small girl cry with the offer of a high five.  Luckily mum found it hilarious.  Also generally great to see tons of kids on the have-a-go pump track and trials courses out that end of the site.

The team trials started after I left, though I did catch some warm ups, sadly not near enough for a good blip. Fun event where the elite competitiors ride with the juniors, both men and women.  Look it up on iplayer!  Really looking forward to the trials events over the next few days, and I've briefed every volunteer that will listen that if they catch sight of Danny Mac then they have to let me know so I can have a fan girl moment.

Edit: forgot another great interaction with two teenage boys who were playing it cool until I asked them for a high five when they then started screaming their heads off.  A bit later I heard Catfish announce that one of the athletes threw their shirt into the crowd to a lad that now might be inspired to take up BMX and come and beat the athlete in a later competition because that's how the sport works.  Turns out the shirt went to one of those lads who high fived me some more on the way out, shouted some more and showed me the shirt.  Think they had a good day.
