a lifetime burning

I'm not sure if this is the same female Common Darter that emerged yesterday, or a different one entirely.  From the colouration she's still immature and pretty fresh - hence the perfect wings.  It's a little bit breezy today so she's picked a thick bunch of iris leaves on the edge of the pond, in which to sunbathe.

Compositionally, I rather liked the way that intervening reeds and the shadows that they throw, frame her in that hazy sunshine.
