Park Art

Although there are over. 400 national parks, ( monuments, historical sites  cemeteries, rivers , trails etc)  there are just 63 large areas with the name national park which have a variety of resources and spectacular natural beauty and geology to be preserved and protected.   Both the game we played yesterday and the set of  (larger) postcards that I dug out  proclaim 59 ….I guess neither is quite up to date.   It requires an act of congress to designate a national park,  Yellowstone being the first one in 1872. 
This is not a treatise on national parks,  I  picked out 12 of my favorites parks from each in the interest of looking at the art.   Interesting to compare..the game’s park cards are all different artists, my set of postcards was done by by one design group.   Interesting but not surprising to see some of the same exact landmarks .   All iconic posters.  You might have to look large.    And thank goodness there was some forethought to creating and saving those spaces for everyone.
