Wildflowers
Backblipped for Thursday. The flowers on the wildflower banking in Bingley are beginning to die off and are now surrounded by weeds. In my opinion they still have a faded beauty. I thought about the poem "A weed is a flower in the wrong place" by Ian Emerson - "A weed is a flower in the wrong place, a flower is a weed in the right place; If you were a weed in the right place you would be a flower, but seeing as you're a weed in the wrong place you're only a weed - it's high time someone pulled you out!" The RHS declared this year that the Chelsea Flower Show was to be all about weeds, but not as we know them. 4 gardens featured plants traditionally regarded as weeds which were being rebranded as resilient and heroes. Weeds are not flowers in the wrong place, but are exactly where they should be. Apparently weeds protect, build and feed soil systems as they grow. I never knew that!
