What's in a name?
Common Bird’s-foot-trefoil  (Lotus corniculatus)  is a low growing plant found in dry areas throughout Britain in summer.   The flowers are usually yellow but there are sometimes orange petals which gives it the name of Bacon and eggs.  The individual flowers resemble a medieval slipper or shoe which explains the name Lady’s slipper or Dutchman’s clog.  The long claw-like seed heads which are just starting to develop here are Fingers and thumbs, Lady’s Fingers or Granny’s toenails.
