A day in Glastonbury

I met my friend P, it would have been Lynne’s birthday today, and we wanted to do something special. First we went to the Abbey which is à slightly awkward blend of christian and pagan. Arthur is said to be buried there, but referred to on the map as mythical. A boy who was using dowsing sticks to detect ley lines in the area where the church had been was told it was not allowed. By à security guard who looked like the Rock! There was a lovely garden, a great café - with carrot cake:) - and the remains of the abbey are fine pieces of 12th century stonework.
The monks had 2 fishing lakes and a fantastic orchard. The monastery was the richest in England - no doubt collecting tithes from the poor people of Somerset.
Then we headed for the tor; having been misled by a footpath sign we went a longer way than necessary. Once we got onto the steep last part of the climb, it was quite challenging. Delighted to reach the top we sat for ages looking at the view, eating a very late packed lunch, and chatting to some other older people who had successfully ascended.
I had to do a collage to show the various parts of the day. The first is part of the abbey garden; then one of the many apple trees heavily laden with fruit. Then the two fishing lakes as they are now. Then the tor above us as we climbed - and finally to show we got there!
It was a happy day - we talked about Lynne a lot - cried - also laughed a great deal. It’s very very hard for P but she is doing well.
