Went to a talk on Magnus Volk, inventor.

It's the 140th anniversary of the Volk's Railway tomorrow.  It runs along the beach in Brighton and is testament to its inventor, Magnus Volk.

Besides the beach railway, he also invented the utterly amazing "daddy-long-legs" - the Brighton and Rottingdean Electric Railway.

Before getting into trains, however, he converted a horse-drawn buggy to electricity by installing a battery. If only this had become popular sooner!
