Burryman
Here he is perching for a rest on a window ledge at the Hawes Inn (it’s the nearest he gets to sitting down all day).
Doc had to get up at 5 am in order to get buses out to SQ, so that he could help with the customary dressing of the Burryman (mostly applying the burrs). I did various domestic chores, including an allotment visit, then in the afternoon I got a train out to Dalmeny and thence to Hawes pier via the mighty set of steps through the woods. I was joined by Old Bat and eventually the Burryman appeared with his retinue – meantime D was approaching from the sea on the Maid of the Forth. They managed to coincide on Hawes pier (first extra). Then we all set off back down the High St – preceded by a piper by now. After he got back to the Stag Head (2nd extra) he went round to the back and was relieved of his costume (3rd extra). Then we managed to extricate Doc from multiple conversations, got a no 43 bus back to town and thence to Leith, where we had some more beer and then a fish supper.
