A surprise
We walked to the very end of our street this morning, which entailed walking up a couple of steep inclines, which made us realise just how unfit we are. Fortunately the last part of the walk to the Farmers’ Market was downhill. We bought a pile of vegetables, were gifted a coffee by the lovely lady who owns the coffee van that’s at the market every week, and bought a kilo of coffee beans from her at a very good price. We chatted to people and enjoyed the music. It was a good morning.
The walk home wasn’t quite so hilly, but as we got to the top of a small street, I realised that this particular street was a lot longer. The we discovered steps up to the next part of the street, and there was the surprise - a tree silhouetted against the blue sky, encircled by a seat, with a plaque commemorating Scott and his fellow explorers. Such an odd thing to find on a quiet street. However, it seems that Scott’s ship, the Terra Nova, called into Oamaru after returning from Antarctica - https://nzhistory.govt.nz/media/photo/night-watchmans-hut-oamaru.
MrMacD planted the plants he purchased yesterday then spent some time on the mirror he’s refurbishing to go in our internal hallway. I caught up on quite a bit of the computer work that’s been neglected over the last few months. After supper we watched a gentle mystery on MrMacD’s iPad.
I included the photo of the yellow Kowhai flowers in the collage. The tree is outside our dining room and it’s filled with tiny birds taking nectar from the flowers, and a couple of Tuis doing the same, who also sit in the tree and sing to us. It’s beautiful.
