Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

The car had to go in for an MOT this morning, so I was up early to take it in. Archie came with me, then we wandered home - it's just up the road. Fingers crossed it wasn't a Big Bill like last time (new tyres, was it?)

When JR came home we took Archie for a walk across the Links and down to the canal. I don't think JR has been down since they built the flats right beside the canal pathway. Our plan was to come round and pop into 'Comb', a favourite cafe in Tolcross. But alas, it was full up! And the next one was full up. So we stopped at the French bakery, which had a few pastries left, nice coffees, and a bench outside. Perfect. We were joined by a woman also in need of a pastry and coffee, and we got chatting. She knew a lot of things that were happening in the area - eg the fate of the big old Post Office building in Morningside. We were able to tell her that the 41 bus (now number 9) will be reverting to its traditional route down the Mound.

I got a phone call to say the car was ready, so I walked home via the garage, while the others had a longer walk. £261.34!!! They had to 'clean and adjust the brakes' which was odd, as we just had new brake liners last time it was in for some technical recall with the Arnold Clark garage.

I was home in time to watch the 1954 film 'The Elephant Walk'. I remember seeing it when I was quite wee, because I was very scared at the end - spoiler alert!! - when the elephants wrecked the house.

Another photo by my assistant, JR. Her new phone has hardly been out of her hands, and she has a new found enthusiasm for photography, although I’m not the most obliging subject.
