Stranraer Railway Station
How many ferry ports does Scotland need to connect with Northern Ireland? Originally one in Stranraer
My blip shows the railway station pier that still operates- just. The track is covered in weeds. The sleepers are steeped in creosote. The former ferry berth is adjacent to the station. The whole ferry port was abandoned about ten years ago and moved to Cairnryan some 5 miles up the sea loch. The trains still run sparingly.
We are hoping to go to NI later this week and we’re doing a recce on timings. We got to the new port but that one was operated by a well known ferry company BUT not the one we hope to use!
After further guddling around at this terminal we discovered there was a third new ferry terminal a little further up the loch! This one is Swedish owned and we hope to use it later this week.
We enjoyed the sunshine here today and the stunning views of Arran. The weather forecast is still good for tomorrow.
