ciphers

we wrote in the air
"beware"
"take care"
"yet never despair"
but the wind cursed
blew and dispersed
our words

we wrote on the fire
"your gods are liars"
"all destroyers"
"love your sisters and brothers"
and the fire irate
fuming with hate
consumed the script

we wrote upon water
"remain on your acre"
"you are as lambs to the slaughter"
"you are to be spared no quarter"
yet the water rose
ebbed and flowed
drowning our prose

we wrote on the stone
"soon you shall be grown"
"seek a life that is your own"
"goodness is never flown"
and the wind howled
and the fire raged
and the water fumed
yet we are not destroyed
