On the Gallops
Our second day in Newmarket and I was up before breakfast to visit the Gallops outside the town. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many horses in such a short period of time. Each racing yard is given a time to use the gallops and it all seemed to go like clockwork, with a constant stream of horses entering the area and racing up the hill.
We are stopping in the Jockey Club Rooms, a private members club that decided to offer its rooms to guests back in 2019.
After breakfast we visited Wicken Fen and then Ely cathedral. The cathedral can be seen from miles away, in the flat landscape of the Fens.
