Sgwarnog: In the Field

Holly

Today’s walk took me along Moorside, where the heather is starting to come into its own (extra), down across the Low Springs pastures (tip-toeing past the wasp’s nest), along Spring Wood and back up through Tong Park.

Again I’d missed the best of the sunshine but it was warm enough for some butterflies: Wall, Small Copper, Peacock, Small White, Speckled Wood, Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown, Holly Blue and a probable Purple Hairstreak. Brown Hawker and Common Darter provided the dragonfly interest.

This Holly Blue seems to have found the only Bramble still in flower, as most are now draped in fat blackberries. The Hawthorn berries are also ripening up.
