A day at the museum
Today started with a most educating walk through the Red Light District of Amsterdam. I am sure it would have been even more interesting at night but there was quite enough flesh on show already at 10am.
We spent the afternoon visiting the Rijksmuseum which has been recently reopened after a 10 year renovation and the Van Gogh Museum. Both museums were really good and had some amazing art. I was very taken with The Milkmaid by Vermeer which had amazing light and composition. I would be proud to take a photograph like that. I have asked Jane if she will give it to me for Christmas ;-)
I was surprised that neither museum banned photography which is most unusual.
The newly renovated Rijksmuseum atrium is most impressive. I thought this picture of visitors with their colourful shirts and backlit shadows had the right atmosphere.
