Daybreak
Saw the sun set over the Atlantic last night, and in a sleepless daze, opened our window to see it rise over the Ria this morning. Totally still, apart from the occasional plane taking off or landing, and flights of birds. Mike got up and we both watched for ages - and then went back to bed, thankfully, I had hardly slept until then.
Straighforward flight to Birmingham, and amazingly clear views over our Alqueva lake and Mourão and surroundings. Posted a less clear one in extras, because it shows both the dam and Mourão in one view; I've labeled both for those interested.
(Flying into Birmingham, realised that I actually know the area less well, from the air, than I do where we live now. Something to be remedied if we ever live here again.)
Paul met us at Sutton Coldfield railway station, and then Deb and Sam cooked us a delicious prawn pasta meal. Stayed up late, chatting and sampling different whiskeys, and fell into our attic bed, hence this late Blip.
(For the record, my favourite was definitely the Lagavulin - echoes of CS Lewis, smoking a pipe in his worn leather chair, surrrounded by old books in a shadowy study, penning out one of his Narnia chronicles.)
Gratefuls:
- beginning the day with this utterly peaceful and soul feeding beauty
- being with family again
- best night sleep I've had in ages (writing this the next morning)
