Chartwell and the Eucryphia tree.
More back blips since I have been away again.
The architecture of Chartwell is not to everyone's taste but I like it! Churchill bought the property in 1922 for £5,000, mainly for the panoramic view over the Weald of Kent. He rebuilt most of the house and lived there with Clementine his wife from 1924 to October 1964, dying in January 1965. The National Trust had been working with Churchill over a period of years before his death so the house was able to be opened to the public in 1966. Most of his paintings are housed in a building in the garden.
We had a wonderful morning wandering around the gardens and enjoyed looking at his paintings before visiting the house.
