Weird

Went to look at the collections at Compton Verney today and saw this odd nativity scene being displayed. My MIL and I discussed at length what the pink stuff was as it looked remarkably like plasticine but we didn't think they had that in the 1500's in Naples. Turns out it was actually pink coral from the Mediterranean.

Still looked a lot like plasticine though.......
