Widheu

Wildheu, wild hay. We did part of the Wildheu hike today, starting from the Eggberg cable car above Fluelen. The forecast was for possible thunderstorms, but late afternoon. We set off directly, noticing that our favourite restaurant Seeblick (Lake View) has closed down. The path started off a little bit up and down, with fabulous views of the Rophaien and the steep grassy slopes where the wild hay is cut by hand. Soon we were in a fabulous forest, with huge chunks of mossy limestone strewn randomly around. When we got to Gruonwaldhubel at 1689m, we had a snack break with this view over Uri and the Lake of Lucern. We joined another path, turning back toward the Eggberg. We tried the new restaurant there, and it was absolutely fantastic, modeled on an English gastropub, so we shared a portion of fish and chips. It was excellent, the best I’ve ever had in Switzerland. There was a great view too from a lovely terrace, looking in to the Gitschen and the Urirotstock. We of course also had to try the Schumli Pflumli there, before we got the cable car back to the carpark.
