a quiet little town
The High Street was subdued this afternoon. Just a few people sitting outside the pub. And any cars that passed through did so as if part of a cortege.
When the Lionesses won the final of the Euros, the town went mad; pride of place, a mural for the home-town captain.
Their legacy is wonderful; so many young girls and women taking up the game. Back in 1921 the men in blazers from the Football Association stated that “the game of football is quite unsuitable for females and ought not to be encouraged.”
Thank goodness enough people were brave enough to ignore them.
