Fringe day with Ailish and Danny

We started the day slowly with a larger than usual breakfast. This fuelled us up for a day of Fringe events with Ailish and Danny.

Our first show was Mervyn Stutter's Pick of the Fringe. Amongst the seven acts (all good) Al Porter had us in absolute hysterics. We were really pleased to be able to buy tickets for his show later in the day.

After Merv's show we took a break for lunch at Pizza Posto, then marched across town to the far end of Princes Street for the Really Terrible Orchestra's one show of the Fringe at St Cuthbert's church. Unfortunately the acoustics in the venue were awful - so much so that we couldn't make out any of the chat between pieces and so missed out on much of the performance. The music itself was nowhere as terrible as advertised, and I was pleased that the pieces chosen were accessible to people like me who are not so familiar with classical music. The Pink panther theme was my favourite.

Our next show was back at the Pleasance. Here we listened to an hour of competent stand-up by Freya Parker. Then we moved on to the Udderbelly at George Square for the musical Kathy and Stella solve a murder. The plot was very silly, but the singing and staging excellent. I photographed the blow-up upside down cow at the Udderbelly for my blip today.

Finally we found our way to Al Porter's show at a small venue not far from the Pleasance. It turned out to be a mistake to sit in the front row, but Danny was a good sport when it became clear that he was to be the 'good looking young straight man' reference point over the course of the whole performance. (It's funny to think that this used to be Mr hazelh's role!) The show was fantastic. I haven't laughed so much in ages.

We made it home just before midnight. We had a very late supper of toast and jam/cheese/mashed banana at the kitchen table before heading to bed. What a day!
