Nok’s Kitchen - Duncan's Land, Gloucester Street

Nok's Kitchen is a delightful Thai Restaurant situated in a former merchant's house built about 1790 from the stones of demolished buildings in the Old Town.
It was the birthplace of the artist, David Roberts (1796-1864), who worked as a scene painter at Edinburgh's Theatre Royal and London's Covent Garden. In 1830, he was appointed President of the Society of British Artists. During the following decade he toured the Far East, producing a celebrated series of paintings of Egyptian scenes and antiquities. He was a Commissioner of the Great Exhibition of Industry and Arts in 1851.
 Extra Photo
A shot of the lintel above the entrance to the building  on the ground floor has an old lintel, removed from elsewhere with an inscription which reads FEAR GOD ONLYE  followed by the initials I G in monogram, the date 1605 and the initials I R. To the left is a merchant's mark. I shot the lintel on 21/8 and it will appear as the photo for that day.
I ate in the restaurant on 14/8 and certainly recommend it - good quality and not overly expensive.
