Capturing my Journey

Fire

At 8.30pm the ranch manager called to ask if we could see smoke in the trees under 2 miles east of us. There was a report of a fire in that area. The ranch owner flew his thermal drone over the area and found there was a smouldering fire so we all headed to the location with chainsaws shovels and the ranch fire truck. When we got there several neighbours were on site with large machinery, water, chainsaws and they had begun clearing a fire break around the area. Rather than fully igniting the trees and vegetation this fire had just been burning the ground which was now 3 foot deep ash with hot spots still aparant in the area. Once on sight with the water truck we began drenching the area and using napsack sprayers to hit any hot spots while the machinery continued to clear a large fire break around it. The ranch manager flew his drone to make sure we were catching all the hot spots. Hi vi's and water bottles were handed out and we all continued to work together for a good few hours. The BC wildfire arrived around midnight and we're impressed with the operation and felt it was now safe to leave it until the morning when they would fully douse the area with helicopters. An exciting evening and got to meet a group of the neighbours. That real sense of people coming together to get stuff done. Helping each other. I in this picture you can see the smoke from the smouldering ground where the excavator was removing anything that could ignite over it while we doused with water.

We are much further north from the major fires currently happening in BC. We have smaller fires all around but nothing like what is going on in Kelowna and in Yellowknife up in the Northwest Territories. We are still very dry so prepared at any moment for anything to happen. We were very lucky this fire didn't ignite and just smoldered as we believe it's been burning for a couple of weeks at least.

Before this we had a lovely relaxing day playing some games as well as our online dungeons and dragons game in morning.

"Focus on what lights a fire inside of you and use that passion to fill a white space. Don't be afraid of the challenges, the missteps, and the setbacks along the way. What matters is that you keep going." ~Kendra Scott
