Tricky choice

It is our 43rd Wedding Anniversary today so we drove in to the Dales to take a walk up to Buckden Pike.  Showers were coming across every few moments on the hour or so drive to Buckden village but the sun came out as we donned our boots and set off upwards.  The showers were making rainbows across the valley and we paused to enjoy them.  As we neared the summit, the wind rose and the showers became more prolonged so we were in low cloud on the top.  We crossed the wall to find some shelter to eat our sandwiches and have a cuppa.  I had taken a modicum of red wine in my water bottle for our toast and, thankfully, a passing walker kindly took a photo of us for posterity.  I had thought of uploading that one but as I didn't take it, I've gone with the rainbow.

We didn't hang about on the ridge as it was chilly, wet and windy, but once we dropped down the weather improved and we could enjoy the views of the Dale below.  Arriving in Starbotton in the valley, we located the Dales Way path alongside the river which took us back to Buckden where we enjoyed a late lunch of sausage and mash and onion gravy in the Buck Inn.

Better on Black.
