SF37 Kamerun

Yep, that’s a statue of a plane in the middle of a stretch of forest. It marks the location of a fake airfield that the German’s created just after the start of the war and their capture of the military airfield some 8km’s north of this spot.

The mock airfield was code named SF37 (for Scheinflugplatz) Kamerun (external link) and used to mislead allied bombers to attack the mock airfield rather than the real one. It was also used as a drop zone for unthrown bombs by the German fighters and bombers as it was risky to land with them on the real airfield.

Had to visit this as it is close to the campsite we were staying and I never visited before, even though it is within cycling distance of home.
