At Auction

Amidst 85 degree weather, I attended an auction that drew 50 to 100 people from all over the place. What normally takes two days to sell, the management enacted a new summer schedule so everything had to be sold today. This was good for us bidders because the auctioneers would speed up the sale, hopefully securing a lower price for the winner.

We have Amish neighbors, but rarely do I see them mingling with the likes of us modern day folk. I was a bit surprised to see a family (Mom, Dad, and three boys) stream in for the auction. They must have been sweltering in their long black pants, shirts buttoned to the top, and straw hats. At least the children were walking around barefoot. I also thought it interesting that the children were drinking cans of root beer and eating hot dogs. I had the impression that such food would be taboo. I still have a lot to learn.

And my winnings for the day? A lovely couch with a hide-away bed and two end tables. Now we can have guests over night :)
