Butterflies, bees, and fish!
After a delicious lunch at our favourite restaurant, The Star at Sancton, we drove over to Pocklington.
Started with a look at the canal where we haven’t been since before Covid.
It was so overgrown near Top Lock.
Will be back later in the year for a walk along the towpath.
Then on to Burnby Hall. Quite busy as there was a flying display of birds of prey.
Lovely to see the water lilies still flowering.
The Upper Lake was built in 1904 as a fishing lake.
The lakes are now home to thousand of Carp, Roach and Rudd which delight the visitors who now feed them instead of catching them.
It also holds the National Collection of Hardy Waterlilies.
One flower was covered in butterflies and bees, and so I bought a plant to bring home.
Echinacea purpurea. Prairie Splenour.
Now have to find a place for it in the garden!
We have had a lovely day. Warm 23C with a glimpse of sun here and there.
Perfect summer’s day.
