Fort Clonque

Not so sunny today so we went to see the gannets ,there are so many here and they are monitored by the Alderney Wildlife trust to see how the population is changing each year as last year they suffered a lot of deaths with avian flu. Then we went went to see Fort Clonque which was originally a Victorian Fort built in the 1940’s. It was manned by 50 men and 2 officers with ten 64 pounder guns in four batteries. It became unused later until the Germans ( when they occupied Alderney) used it I in the 1940’s. The causeway is cut off at high tide.
Now it is owned by the Landmark Trust and a holiday let property. It sleeps 13 in three different  buildings. It’s an amazing place to stay…we stayed there for a significant birthday for my husband..all very memorable. It has always been very pricey to stay there.
I’ve just remembered I have blipped this before in 2022 and 2021 when we stayed here…but the photos are a bit different!

We had a coffee at a newish boutique hotel called the Blonde Hedgehog, named after the blonde hedgehogs which are found here. This evening we will have dinner at a long established hotel, the Georgian House.

We have been enjoying watching the World Athletics championships and some British successes.
