Fragrant

June is one of my favourite months of the year, primarily because it's when our peonies bloom.

They are my most loved flowers because they are so beautifully ruffled and full, like a prima ballerina's tutu, and because of their intoxicatingly sweet scent. The one thing I find sad, though, is that they always come into their full glory just as the weather turns stormy and wet, which makes them bow their lovely heads down to gaze dejectedly at the ground.

On rainy June days like today, you will always find at least one jug filled with these gorgeous flowers in my house, where they can recover from their near-drowning experience.
