I like to start the academic year with this lighthearted and non-threatening activity. I read a poem about Zurgo and the children draw what they "see" in their minds.

What do you see in your mind?

Zurgo is an alien
He's from the planet Zplod
He's really rather friendly
But certainly looks odd.


He is green and pink and orange
Spindly and thin.
Hairs sprout from his nostrils
Even more sprout from his chin.


Slime drips from his scaley body
As he slithers here and there.
Antennas bobbing up and down
In his purple, spikey hair.


He has twelve tentacles in place of arms
And the most enormous nose.
Suckers on his seven feet
His body almost glows.


He has a long, curly tail
Which helps him as he walks.
And even worse, upon his head,
Three eyes pop out on stalks.
