In the orchard
It was a beautiful day, and although I didn't manage to go for walk, it was lovely to spend a bit of time in the orchard. P has mowed paths between the rows of trees, and there are a huge number of small apples to pick and use before the birds eat them all. I brought in a large bowl of slightly damaged windfalls, which will be fine to cut up and use promptly, together with some sound but small fruits from one tree. Subsequently I cleaned and trimmed them, boiled and mashed them to a pulp which dripped through the jelly bag, then combined with the blackberry juice to make jelly.
The extra is a very lovely sunflower which has appeared in the vegetable garden. It has the beautiful colour variation of last year's flowers, and must have grown from a missed seed in a pot emptied onto the garden.
