Beautiful windows

Last night a number of locals attended a talk in the village church about stained glass windows. The speaker covered the history from medieval glass to examples of modern work by Tom Denny in Gloucester Cathedral. The windows in Dervaig church date from around 1910 although the photo above has become a controversial topic about its meaning, some of it to do with matters raised in the Dan Brown Book, The Da Vinci code.

This morning I called back into the church for a better photograph, it was good to be there on my own, a first I believe although the windows looked better last night is the evening light.

Our speaker last night tried to find some perspective on this work, I felt happy with his reasoning; the window was commissioned by Isabella Forrest in memory of her sister Mary who lived in this area of Dervaig.

It would be interesting to find out more about the Forrest family, undoubtedly people with money.

I hope to visit Gloucester cathedral in a few weeks, it will be good to look at the glass window mentioned.
