An ordinary life....

Calanais standing stones...

What a lovely day we have had.

Headed back to Lews Castle in Stornoway for lunch.  Weather wasn't great but of course it changes every 15 minutes so it gave us some dramatic light and skies.

Once at the Castle we headed straight to the cafe and ordered lunch.  After a bit of a long wait, we enquired if our food would be arriving soon.  Turns out their machines were't talking to each other.  Our order had gone through but hadn't printed in the kitchen.  The young waiter couldn't have ben more apologetic (he remembered us from last year :-) We said it was absolutely fine, these things happen.  Then the manageress came over and apologised and said our lunches would be on the house.  We said that really wasn't necessary but she insisted.  How lovely is that?  No wonder we love this place.  It is full of quality people :-)

Lunch over we had another wander in the Castle to let P see around it, then back to the car and off to the main attraction of the day, the standing stones at Calanais.  Now these are quite special and once seen, never forgotten.  Info on the stones HERE.

We got parked and P and D went wandering through the stones.  Unfortunately the ground isn't suitable for my wheels but we were parked in a good spot and I was able to get decent enough shots from the car.

It's almost impossible to get shots devoid of humans but the place wasn't too busy today so I was patient and quick to press the camera shutter button and was able some quick shots sans humans.

From there we went to the Visitor Centre for a cuppa. We did note that the same goods we bought in the gift shop at Lews Castle were way cheaper than the gift shop at the Visitor Centre, so if you ever visit Lewis, buy your gifts at the Lews Castle.

Back in the car and we took a scenic back road back to Stornoway to do a small food shop at Tescos.  Good grief!  It was chaos.  The aisles are quite narrow and it was really busy.  The other large supermarket in Stornoway (The Co-op) is having major building work done so I think a lot of their shoppers are using Tesco at the moment.  We got what we needed as fast as we could and escaped!

Lovely drive back down to Harris and polished off the last of the Champagne and the Arran cassis with veggie stir fry for dinner.

We were supposed to have a early night tonight but once I started editing my photos from today I just wanted to get them finished.

More Calanais shots in extras and a shot of my favourite little ruined croft on the road to Harris that I first photographed on our first holiday here in 2019.  The roof is certainly looking a lot more precarious.  I love it though. The original photo is framed and hangs in our hall.  It's like an old friend :-)

Planning a drive round south Harris tomorrow morning then possible some painting in the afternoon.  Happy Days :D
