Newtondale
I've had to zap this up a bit because of the contrast between the Dale and the sky. We drove up to Kiteseeker's patch on the North York Moors this morning to compete in the second day of Ebor's White Rose Weekend. When the girls were young we would come and camp at this event over the Bank Holiday weekend, usually with other families from our Club and it would be a smashing, sociable few days with orienteering in and around it. The NY Moors forests are notoriously tough underfoot so in recent years we have just attended for a day, and the tent remains in the cupboard!
It was good to catch up with folks at the event and I enjoyed my run, finishing in fourth place which is a big improvement on my results at the Scottish Six Days. Tony's SI card did not register on his first control so he is unfortunately down as having missed one, and not best pleased.
After our runs we did some more chatting with friends and picked up delicious drinks and cakes from the very good bakehouse folks who were catering for the campers, before we set off home.
Newtondale is very picturesque and we could hear the NY Moor Railway steam trains chugging through the dale from time to time, en route to and from Whitby to Pickering. In the foreground of my blip you can see children enjoying running the maze. I've just spotted Jenny waving at me!
