Chiffchaff Kerfuffle
Lots of flapping going on in the elderberry bush this morning. I guessed that it was a juvenile chiffchaff being chased off by a parent. However I've read that there is a theory that this behaviour could be play. Chiffchaffs will even chase tits and other birds.
Though a few chiffchaffs stay here over the winter most migrate to Africa. Juveniles have time to play, they hang around for some time prior to migrating as a result of their slow post juvenile moult. They put on fat for the journey quickly immediately before departing.
