Rite of Passage

Busy day. She was playing in the band for church today. She took her new saxophone, Trevor, for his first outing. He sounded stunning! (See extra). It was our holiday club celebration service so we were both super busy. She went home afterwards while I did the pack down and a load of jobs. But we were done by 2pm thanks to the service being quite short and some people mucking in.

We decided to go to Scarborough to visit the parentals. I had no desire to drive but the forecast here was shocking, nearer beaches were equally grim, but Scarborough seemed the safest bet. And I played the odds right! It didn't rain at all. We had a good walk round the north side, down to the beach, through Peasholm Park, where we hunted for dinosaurs. Ice cream stop. Across to Northstead Manor Gardens and we decided to initiate Katie into the delights of the Kinderland Waterchute. Kinderland was a beloved part of almost all Scarborough childhoods until it closed 15 years ago, but the Waterchute and boating lake remain. She was regretting her choices as we sat in the boat about to ride but the laughter was certainly worth it. As was the photo, to be fair.
