Helmsley
Day 3 of our mini-break in Helmsley followed our usual pattern of a walk, followed by lunch and a couple of beers so Bank Holiday Sunday turned out to be no different. Plus it was our first day without the distraction and restriction of The Ebor Comp and the viewing of horse racing on tv.
We went to Ash dale which was a lovely, quiet wooded walk, but strangely without much wildlife (fauna) to see and only a handful of other walkers and one cyclist. ( see main) we were caught in a heavy rain shower on our return to the town.
As we are away on V’s Birthday we decided to treat her to lunch today. We sat al fresco at the Feathers Hotel PH under a very large outdoor umbrella heating structure. We were very pleased we were seated were we where when the very serious storm cloud moved through!! Thunder, lightening, a severe change in atmospheric pressure and a torrential downpour. It was very exciting. See extra.
Our accommodation overlooks the river Rye, its a tranquil shallow stretch of water.
