The kitchen people measured our kitchen to see if it all works what the sales person suggested. It does. It was super interesting to see the whole process. We showed the sales person a plan of our flat  and told him what we would like. He then sketched what the kitchen might look like on  paper. After we selected colours and handles he picked the items from the inventory and added them to a digital plan of the kitchen. Once done we could see a rendering of it.

Today, somebody came round to confirm it would fit. He used one of those laser distance measuring devices. He had the plan on a wee tablet and followed the instructions of what to measure. The measurements were automatically transferred to the plan and will be sent to the kitchen designer. The kitchen designer will then send us a detailed plan for the electrician of what should go where. The digitisation appears to be working very well here.  We also had the gas person around to check our boiler. It is all in working order.

We have some new things that need to get sorted: both the kitchen and gas man spotted a funny bit which is part a cleaning hatch for one of the chimneys. It clearly hadn't been opened in decades. We'll need to get the ok from the chimney sweep to block it up before the new kitchen totally blocks it.

I also took the opportunity to check the space above the bathroom. We don't plan to do anything to the bathroom at this stage. We thought the ceiling was lowered by the people who put in the bathroom. Looks like the space above the bathroom has been there for quite a while. The floor boards look quite solid. In an old Edinburgh flat there would have been a water tank in that space. I need to find out if we can use it for some storage. It would also be a handy space for the server room.

It is now exactly one year that I have left Scotland to live in Edinburgh. Time for a blog post to take stock.
