Mute Swans ( Cygnus olor )
A leisurely return home. Kat was going in to work to help a new colleague so we visited Morton Hall and had lunch while there. Next stop Biggar for a look round the town we generally drive through. When we reached Annandalewater services we stopped again, partly for a cuppa and for a walk round the "lake".
This pair of Swans were feeding quite a way out from the shore. They feed mainly on vegetation so the water can't be deep as they weren't needing to "up tail". They are one of the approximately 7,000 pairs the UK holds rising in winter to 53,000 individuals.
