Get off my patch!
Firstly, apologies - this blip is not up to scratch. We first spotted these tits a few days ago darting in and out of a piece of broken roofing. We were working in the field not far away and watching the activity increasing. So, today we had to try to blip the birds - there were two adults going back and forth at regular intervals. But how to get close enough? In the end we decided to clear a waist high clump of nettles from the side of the outbuildings about 10 feet away from the hole in the roof. The tits were not too happy about this proximity. Eventually, having settled into position, with camera mounted on tripod, we waited. The tits flew over to the hole but wouldn't go in to feed their chicks. Instead, they approached within about 6 feet, chirping in a rather challenging way. We took lots of shots at an 11 x digital magnification, although it was difficult to see how successful they were in bright sunshine on the small screen. Only when transferred to the PC did we realise how poor was the definition. We are so impressed with all the blippers out there who manage to take superbly sharp shots of such tiny creatures. Our blip today simply shows the limitations of our skill and, to some extent, our equipment. But at least we tried!
