Thank You For the Days ..

The Ancestral Home ?

We crossed the narrow sea this morning, and all went smoothly - literally. My only gripe - surely the ferry company could have come up with a more exciting name than Superfast VIII?

We headed north from Belfast and then followed the coast road from Cushendall to Portrush. The intention was to stop somewhere near Ballycastle, but as we approached it was evident that there was some huge event taking place and we couldn't get anywhere near. Apparently it was the Ould Lammas Fair, an annual event which sounded like it would have been great fun. Horse Trading??  The entire population of Northern Ireland seemed to be there.

So we kept going, stopping to admire the wonderful coastal views, chasing the sunshine as the torrential showers chased us. If it had been clearer we could have seen the Scottish coast, apparently.  The spectacle of the ruined towers of Dunluce Castle more than made up for that, the light at that point was amazing. Wiki tells me it was once a stronghold of Clan Donald, so maybe TM's forefathers once hung out here.

We're stopped tonight on a farm near Portrush, surrounded by horses.
