Plenty of that today starting after breakfast where the owner of Duff Green Mansion shot through the history of the house, the civil war, and the south. Then to the totally deserted Vicksburg National Military Park to gawp at the USS Cairo. Fascinating! On to Port Gibson and needing a pee, I nipped into the restrooms at the courthouse as you do, to find a wonderful exhibition: No Easy Journey, about the struggle for civil rights in one small town.
Down the Natchez Trace for a few miles and we thought we ought to have a look at Emerald Mound. Hmmm, well, a big mound of grassed earth and some fanciful information boards.
So, Natchez and to Choctaw Hall, our lodgings for the next two nights. Not to be confused with the ridge of that name where y’all remember, nothin' ever comes to no good.
No indeed, this is a terrifically OTT place - and we seem to have it all to ourselves.
Out via the Natchez brewery, conveniently one block away and on to Frankie’s on Main Street.
A rest day tomorrow. I may read up.
