Ornamental cabbage

As we would be otherwise occupied on the day of our usual social visit to a garden centre with Kanyl we visited the Orton grange garden centre.  After the usual coffee and cake we had the usual wander round looking for suitable subjects for blips.

Ornamental cabbages have always caught my eye, particularly the purple ones.  While they are edible when young I am told the taste is rather strong.  Interestingly the colour gets more intense as the temperature falls.  That leaves me wondering, nurseries can "force" plants to flower early, I wonder if they can grow them in cooler temperature to ensure good colour ready for sale.
