Iron Bridge

Apparently Penkridge market is one of the best, having been in existence since 1244. Today we had plenty to see and purchase though confined ourselves to socks and tools with a bakery treat for later. We then toured the charity shops before trying to find an antique shop and cafe out of town but failing miserably.

So we drove over to Ironbridge instead, to admire the world's first bridge made of cast iron, spanning the gorge through which the River Severn flows. Extra photo is the railing at the centre, with the date 1779, when the bridge was erected.

Being a weekend it was very busy with folk of all ages, their dogs, motorbikes zooming up and down the road but, now traffic-free, the old bridge stands quietly - it's seen it all before.
