Gotta Catch ‘Em All

Actually, we would be happy to catch just one! My lovely and accommodating neighbor is shown setting gopher traps under our apple tree. You can just see the contraption, called a Gophinator, in her left hand. It’s a tricky business if the spring releases while you’re holding it, so I am reluctant to try it myself, but G is a trooper. When she saw the fresh dirt mound she stopped her own work to run and get her trap kit. The logic is: if she catches one over here, then it won’t cross the fence line and get to her fig tree. The truth will out within 48 hours—if you havent caught one by then, they have probably abandoned that tunnel.
