Glenbrittle

We nearly lost our nerve about going up to Skye. We'd been told that if it was overcast, we wouldn't enjoy it as much - but surely that's true of most places? - and it is a long drive.

On the other hand, we love a drive through Scotland, and we wanted to see Skye, so we made an early start this morning, packing up the awning and stowing all our stuff, before getting on the road at about eight o'clock.

And it was a beautiful drive. Today's Extra is representative of the scenery that we were driving through. As the Minx noted, "It's like the Lake District on drugs".

We had booked onto a campsite in a place called Glenbrittle, but when we arrived in Carbost, the one road out to the site was closed. The policeman in charge of the 'Road closed' sign reckoned it would re-open in a couple of hours, and as Carbost boasted a lochside pub*, that didn't seem a huge problem.

After a couple of hours we went back to see what was happening with the road to Glenbrittle and it re-opened just as we arrived! I took today's photo as we drove along it.

The campsite was at the end of the road, right where it was supposed to be, and we put up the awning and settled in for the evening. However, a distinct lack of signal means we'll only stay for tonight; we need to work tomorrow!

*It also has the Talisker distillery but we were more in the mood for a pint and reading our books.
