The Leith Pageant

Today is the annual 'Leith Pageant' - a tradition that has been around for almost a century.

Our father worked for the "Scotsman" newspaper, and I can remember him wangling it one year so that my sister and I could take part on the Scotsman's float. I have no idea what we dressed up as, and the more I think about it, it may be more a childhood wish than a childhood memory - ie it quite possibly never happened.

This year, first up as usual were the pipers. I'd add a link to some bagpipe music, but I don't think anybody would thank me for it. How come Bali has the gamelan, Spain has the guitar, and Scotland gets the droning bagpipes?
