South Island Takahe

These large beautiful birds were thought to be extinct, until in 1948 they were found again. Their numbers are now up to 400. A lot of work from a lot of people. Now mostly on predator free islands, or protected parks. This lovely fellow has a problem with its joints. We feel honoured to be able to care for it.
